Auto Defrost Freezer Not Working

If the defrost sensor fails to shut off the defrost heater. The fuse will blow in order to shut off the defrost heater. Ice buildup in the freezer cabinet is an indication that the auto defrost system is not working. You can use volt ohm meter to check the defrost sensor for continuity.

The defrost sensor has a fuse to back up the sensor in case the sensor fails. In most cases the problem is a defective defrost timer. The defrost thermostat needs to be replaced if its contacts aren t properly functioning. If the problem is not resolved the freezer will start to thaw as well.

When the coils are covered by too much frost and ice airflow is restricted and the freezer won t efficiently cool food. The defrost sensor has a fuse to back up the sensor in case the sensor fails. The defrost timer is such that either the compressor or the defrost heater is on but not both at the same time. If the defrost heater assembly is defective the defrost system will not work and frost will continue to accumulate. If the defrost sensor fuse blows the defrost system will not work and the refrigerator will not defrost. The automatic defrost should now work if there is no other issues with the defrost system.

It can take up to a month to get to this point. The freezer s set temperature is correct. Move on to the next step if this does not resolve the defrosting issue. The normal freezer temperature is between 0ºf and 5ºf.
